Courts

Trempealeau County’s circuit court and the people who keep it running — the judge with Wisconsin’s heaviest caseload, and the clerk of court who turns a ruling into a record.

Courts

One judge, 4,355 filings, and the heaviest caseload in Wisconsin

Judge Rian Radtke has spent nearly five months asking Trempealeau County to tell the Legislature it wants a second circuit court branch. In May, the Wisconsin Court System released the study the county had been waiting for. Its tables put Trempealeau’s caseload per judge first in the state.

Clerk of court

The judge rules. The clerk makes the ruling real.

With 4,510 new cases in 2024 and Wisconsin’s heaviest judicial workload, Trempealeau County is electing the official responsible for the record, the money, the juries and the people who keep its court moving.
