Voting

  • Polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
  • You can register at the polling place with proof of residence. Wisconsin allows same-day registration.
  • Check your own ballot and your polling place at the Wisconsin Elections Commission’s MyVote lookup: myvote.wi.gov. Deadlines are listed at myvote.wi.gov/Voter-Deadlines.

This is a partisan primary: you may vote in one party’s column. What appears on your ballot depends on where you live, which is what the MyVote lookup is for.

Trempealeau County Sheriff

Republican primary

No Democrat, independent or third-party candidate filed, according to Ballotpedia’s listings, so this primary is expected to decide the office. A write-in campaign could still change that: Wisconsin lets a write-in win a party’s nomination by drawing votes equal to the signatures the office would otherwise require.

  • Wayne Dahl — Chief deputy, with the sheriff’s office since 2000.
  • Kent Johnson — Blair police chief.
  • Erica Koxlien — The sitting sheriff, appointed in December 2025 by Gov. Tony Evers after Brett Semingson retired.

Clerk of Circuit Court

Republican primary

The seat is open because the last elected clerk resigned in October 2024 with more than two years left in the term. Whoever wins this primary meets Democrat Mary Teresa Foss on Nov. 3, for a four-year term beginning in January 2027.

  • Leni Nilsestuen — Six years in the county district attorney’s office, and nine and a half before that in the Army National Guard.
  • Jessica Schue — Twenty-four years at a private law firm.

G-E-T facilities referendum

Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau School District

The district’s facilities question is on the same ballot. Only voters inside the G-E-T district see it.
